Protect Your Pet At Home & On The Road

by: melschubert | Total views: 40 | Word Count: 327

While on a recent trip to Florida we were driving down the highway when my husband noticed cars spinning out of control ahead of us. We managed to stop the traffic behind us, and it was then we realized what nearly caused a terrible wreak; two small dogs were lost and confused in the middle of the road. Luckily, everyone, including the dogs, survived.

Unfortunately, this is not always the case.

We live in a small town where frogs sing at night and you can hear the train rolling down the tracks nearby. Our neighbor’s have a couple of dogs, and there’s another around the corner we called Ginger. These dogs visit us daily, and rarely wander away from our corner of the town. There’s little traffic, so the dogs are fairly safe. Still, we prefer to keep our dog either on a leash or within the fence. Ginger, a excitable, pit bull mix, loved people, and followed a kid out of town toward the train tracks. I’ll avoid the graphic details and simply say Ginger did not return in one piece.

Like Children Pets Need Protection

Our pets are like family. We often talk to them, and buy them gifts like they’re children. For the safety of your Pet, and that of others, it is best to take the same precautions as we would with children. Know where your pets are; especially when traveling. Like children, pets can wander off in a moments notice. Keep your pets on a leash or within a fenced area. There are a number of affordable options available, which include invisible fences. Check with your local vet or pet store for options available to suit your needs.
