When you are looking to adopt a rabbit, of course you are going to want to take good care of her, but do you know what that means? Rabbits are relatively easy animals to care for, but there is still some basic information that you need to be aware of. They are very tame and if they are well socialized, you'll find that they can be wonderfully friendly. Make sure that you handle your rabbit daily and don't be upset if your rabbit doesn't care to cuddle. Most rabbits prefer to sit next to their owners and you'll discover that this can be quite rewarding as well.

One of the first places to start when learning rabbit care is with the diet. Your rabbit is like you and wants variety. She will be a happy rabbit if she gets choices. Pellets are a staple of the diet, but she will also like vegetables and hay.

You should avoid feeding your rabbit grass directly from outside. It can cause illness from parasites and pesticides. Vegetables are great for your rabbit, but they should be limited. Rabbits love sweet things, but you should not overload their diet with fruits and dry food should also be given in reasonable amounts.

What kind of housing does your rabbit need? Ideally, you'll find that your pet rabbit should have lots of room to roam inside the cage. At the very least, the cage needs to house the litter box and the food and water bowls without cramping your rabbit.

Many people choose a cage with a wire bottom, but this can injure the rabbits feet. If you d get a wire bottom cage then simply put linoleum or some type of covering on the bottom of the cage. You also need to give your rabbit toys to play with. Cardboard, paper or chew toys will work well and encourage natural chewing.

Also remember that as much as your rabbit might look like couch potato, he will still need to exercise. Some people let their rabbits free-range in their home, while other people let them out for supervised playtime.

If you want to let your rabbit outside then you must supervise them and keep them in a caged in area. You should let your rabbit get exercise time for a few hours everyday. This will help keep your rabbit healthy and stop destructive behavior that can be dangerous or bad.

There are many things you must keep in mind to properly care for your rabbit. The things above are a great start. You also need to think about other things. For example, coat care is required to keep it looking good. You may also need further special care if your rabbit is older.
